From Thursday, December 19 to Sunday, December 22, Reiwa 6, four students participated in the TJ-SIF2024 (Japan-Thailand High School ICT Fair) held at Princess Chulaporn Science High School (PCSHS) in Satun Province, Thailand. Students from 12 PCSHS in Thailand, Japan’s KOSEN and Super Science High Schools (SSH) gather to present their research results and deepen mutual cultural exchange.
Toyota KOSEN has PCSHS Chiang Rai as its partner school, and has participated in the program five times (including online) so far. PCSHS Chiang Rai is a school with other connections, such as an international exchange video contest. This time, the research of SANO Fuka and NAKANISHI Yuzuki, a pair of second-grade students in the Department of Information amd Computer Engineering, was selected as one of the three representative posters in Japan and presented in front of the Minister of Education of Thailand.

[Oral presentations by participating students, Part 2]
There are two main things that I have gained from participating in TJ-SIF.
The first is that I was able to learn about research activities. It was my first experience of making things, working on things for a long time, and presenting the results of my work. Every time I made a mistake, I reconsidered it and repeated trial and error. I was very anxious about presenting something in English overseas that I had never done in Japanese. However, when I was selected as a representative of the poster presentation and praised in the oral presentation, I was confident that my efforts had paid off.
The second thing was that I was able to experience foreign cultures firsthand. This was my first time to go abroad with my participation in TJ. It was the first time I was visiting a place with a very different language, culture, and values, and I was very nervous to interact with people I was meeting for the first time. Of course, I can’t use Japanese. However, both Thai students and Japanese made an effort to understand each other’s thoughts, and deepened their friendship not only with words but also with facial expressions and gestures. In this way, I was able to learn about each other’s countries with the students I became friends with.
By living in Thailand for one week, I was able to learn a lot of wonderful things about Thailand, and on the other hand, I was able to realize the goodness of Japan, which I can be proud of in the world.
The last 8 months and 1 week have been an opportunity for me to grow a lot. I would like to make use of this invaluable experience to continue to take on challenges in the future.

This was the first time I traveled abroad with TJ-SIF. I learned about TJ when the seniors in the dormitory participated in TJ-SSF. I had always been interested in overseas exchanges, so I decided to join TJ because I was attracted to TJ, where I could actually go to Thailand and interact with the local community.
In order to participate in TJ, I had to submit an abstract or full paper written in English. It was difficult to explain my research in English, and it was difficult for me to write as much as I wanted, but with the support of my professors, I was able to convey my research. In addition, by participating in this TJ, I was able to acquire the ability to collaborate with others to create one thing and to give presentations. I would like to make use of what I was able to grow at this TJ in the future.
