  1. We conducted an idea verification of the “Regional Disaster Prevention Capability Improvement Challenge”!

At the “Regional Disaster Prevention Capability Improvement Challenge,” a collaborative contest between the National College of Technology and the National Institute for Disaster Prevention, which will be held for the first time this fiscal year, the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory (Tanaka Lab), Department of Environmental and Urban Engineering, submitted an idea called “Tatami Championship ~Protecting Tatami Embankments, a Traditional Flood Control Method~”, and it was decided to proceed to the final judging meeting to be held at the end of March.
We conducted an idea verification on Thursday, February 21 at Nagaragawa, Gifu City! With the cooperation of the Kiso River Upstream River Office of the Chubu Regional Development Bureau, the Flood Control Division of Gifu City Hall, and the local Honganji Gifu Betsuin Temple, a demonstration of the tatami making championship was held. Through this activity, we hope to raise awareness of the traditional flood control method “tatami embankment” and raise disaster prevention awareness among local people, helping to improve regional disaster prevention capabilities.
The state of this initiative was published in the Chunichi Shimbun (Gifu suburban edition), the Yomiuri Shimbun (Gifu edition), and the Gifu Shimbun!
We will work to make better presentations at the final judging meeting in March.
