With special support from the alumni association, the Department of Architecture held a “Career Development Discussion Session” on December 19, 2025 (Friday). The “Alumni Association Lecture,” held in May, is an event where graduates come to speak, but the aim of this session was to create a more casual atmosphere and an opportunity for students from a wide range of grades to talk with graduates at close range.
Four graduates from the classes of 2015 to 2018 were invited, and 32 students from the 1st to 4th year of the Department of Architecture participated, listening to stories about their seniors’ work and past turning points.
The students gained various insights from the stories of their seniors, who had a diverse range of experiences, including those working for companies, civil servants, those who had changed jobs after working for companies, and those working independently. The seniors shared impressive stories about how they were able to create a “mold” within themselves by making many mistakes and creating options, how they had explored what it means to live in a way that is easy for them, and the importance of creating a “axis” within themselves. The students seemed to have received from their seniors the attitude of facing themselves without fear of failure both during their KOSEN years and after graduation, and that they can learn a lot from failure.
It was impressive to see the participation of students from lower grades, who have few opportunities to hear directly from graduates. There was a request from the first-year students to “hold such opportunities every month.”
