The “Yumemiru City Girls,” a joint team of Toyota KOSEN and Gifu KOSEN, won the Corporate Award (Tokyo Water Award) at the 4th KOSEN GIRLS SDGs × Technology Contest (KOSEN GCON2025) held on December 14, 2025 (Sunday) at the University of Tokyo Ito International Research Center Ito Hall !
This team focused on the environmental issues caused by CO₂ emissions and landfill problems resulting from waste tiles that are discarded without being commercialized in the Mino region. The Mino region has many workers in the ceramic industry, and they are facing the serious issue of a large amount of waste tiles not only straining the premises of production factories but also generating high industrial waste disposal costs.
Since Toyota KOSEN and Gifu KOSEN are geographically close to the ceramic production area of the Mino region, within an hour’s drive, they formed a joint team with the idea of contributing to solving this waste tile problem as members of the local community.
They developed a recycling aggregate regeneration technology using waste tiles as a raw material, and in particular, realized the production of aggregate that is optimal for road paving. Furthermore, in cooperation with the Tajimi City Hall, they are working to establish an industry-wide consortium, aiming to realize a recycling-oriented society through the world’s first recycling of waste tiles and its utilization.
