The international exchange video contest started in 2020 has a whopping 232 participants so far, including overseas students!
In particular, we have a deep connection with PCSHS (Princess Churapong Science High School) Chiang Rai School in Thailand, and we have repeatedly exchanged ideas in international exchange activities such as the TJ Project and TEDxToyotaKOSEN.

[Winners’ students, teachers, TA students, and the screen shows the winners, participants, and teachers of Princess Chulapong Science High School Chiang Rai]
Thai students and Toyota KOSEN students paired up and worked with the paired students to create a total of three videos, including practice, despite the time difference and language barrier. Through workshops on the SDGs by external lecturers and discussions with paired students about problems in their own countries that hinder the concept of ED&I, they deepened their understanding of this year’s theme, “ED&I × Tech”.
Video Contest Theme: “How can you realize ED & I with technology?” (“How to achieve ED&I using technology?”)
The evaluation is not only about English skills, but also about teamwork with pairs and whether they are able to express their ideas. The winners’ works were amazing in these respects. In addition, the participants in the contest were in the lower grades, mainly in the first and second grades, and many students thought they were not good at English, but with the support of TA students with extensive experience in international exchange, all the teams completed the final video production.
I think it was never easy to work with the pair to create a video using English, which is both our second language, but I believe that this experience was a valuable experience that gave the students confidence and led to new steps.
We will introduce the comments of the winners of the 7th Video Contest along with the URLs of their videos. Please take a look!

~The interaction between the two is fun and the learning is great~
[Ms. NISHIDA’s comment]
In this competition, we tried many new things.
It was very difficult for me to discuss social issues in English that I had never learned about, but with the help of my partner and friends, I was able to do it.
I still find it difficult to speak in English, but I would like to talk to my partner Ploy again someday about each other’s meals.
2nd Place–Team4: AOKI Nene, 2nd year in the Department of Architecture & Ms. Natthasaran Wangkukunakorn (Thailand)

~The editing skills are excellent, and the teamwork shines~
[Ms. AOKI’s comment]
I was a little nervous because it was my first time participating in this video contest, but as I progressed, I became more and more fun to keep in touch.
While thinking deeply about ED&I, which was the theme, I was also able to notice the similarities and differences between Thailand and Japan.
A few months seemed like a long time, but it really went by in the blink of an eye. I would like to make use of this experience in the future. Thank you very much.
3rd Prize–Team7: CHUJO Rina, 2nd year in the Department of Information and Computer Engineering & Ms. Orathai Arbu (Thailand)

[Ms. CHUJO’s comment]
I was happy to be able to get to know my partner through phone calls and build friendships.
In addition, by trying out “ED&I” and video editing, which I had not had much experience with, I was able to learn new knowledge and techniques, which was a very valuable experience.
TA Special Award–Team6: MINATANI Yufu, 1st year in the Department of Architecture & Ms. Sasipim Srisuwan (Thailand)

~It was highly evaluated by TA students, and it is a work that makes you feel the usefulness of technology~
[Ms. MINATANI’s comment]
Participating in this video contest has greatly deepened my learning about ED&I, which is the theme of this year.
I was happy to realize that even if we share ideas across countries, there are people who are influenced by the same things, have the same questions, and are looking for something they can do.
By being able to find and share differences such as what is going on in Japan and Thailand, I also had hope that we can create a world where we can take advantage of the good things in each other’s countries.
It was a good experience that made me feel that I want to interact more with people who have various perspectives on the point where the world should change, rather than going to war or not.
