For seven days from Wednesday, March 12 to Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the “KOSEN Global Camp” was held at our school. This camp (workshop) is an initiative aimed at creating the city of the future by bringing together students from all over the world to exchange opinions under the theme of “a total workshop in field, manufacturing, design, and engineering that aspires to the smart city of the future.”
The participants included 15 participants from overseas (the UK, Thailand, and Vietnam), 18 students from Toyota National College of Technology, and one each from Ishikawa, Suzuka, Nagano, Fukui, Maizuru, Miyakonojo, and Yonago KOSEN. In addition, international students from Cambodia, the Philippines, and Malaysia studying at KOSEN also participated, making the workshop rich in international exchange, with English as the common language.
The participating students were divided into groups of five with different nationalities and cultures, and proposed a model for a future smart city using LEGO brocks, making use of the issues of the city in which they live and the hints for urban development gained from their tour of Nagoya. With sound advice from current university students, each group created a city full of creativity and unique characteristics.
In the final presentation on the final day, each team made full use of the teamwork they had built up through the workshop and presented a presentation rich in ingenuity. All the students finished the week-long program with a sense of accomplishment and a sense of fulfillment.
During the period, the students stayed in the dormitory of Toyota KOSEN, where they were able to deepen their exchanges while sleeping and eating together, and were able to have a valuable and rich international exchange experience. On weekends, with the cooperation of the Toyota International Association and Open Heart, all overseas students and domestic students who wished to participate in a homestay with a family in Japan spent valuable time interacting with each other.
We hope that this experience was a valuable opportunity for each of the participating students to broaden their horizons to the world and grow as the next generation of human resources.
This program was supported by the KOJIMA Foundation.
