  1. The 6th International Video Contest Winners were awarded! ~Thinking about the SDGs in pairs with overseas students, expressing the perspectives of young people in videos~

The International Exchange Video Contest started in 2020, and so far there have been 202 participants (total number of participants), including overseas students! In particular, we have a deep connection with the Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Chiang Rai in Thailand, and we have been involved in international exchange activities such as the TJ Project and TEDxToyotaKOSEN.

Thai students and Toyota KOSEN students were paired up to think about topics related to the SDGs and create four videos, including practice. This year’s theme was to choose one of the following four areas and express our thoughts on the realization of sustainability. The final video was evaluated by judges both inside and outside the school, and the winner was determined based on the submission status of the previous three videos.

Sustainability x Cities and community
Sustainability x Human rights
Sustainability x Gender equality
Sustainability x Technology

The evaluation is not only in English, but also on the interaction of the pair and whether they are able to express their ideas. The work of the winners was excellent in these respects. In addition, many of the participants in the contest were in the lower grades, mainly first- and second-grade students, but during the six-month activities, the participating students received the support of experienced TA students, and it was clear that their video works improved both in terms of content and video creation skills.

I hope that both the experiences that went well in the contest and the experiences that did not go well will be connected to international understanding and language learning as the next step.

The comments of the winners of the 6th contest will be introduced along with the URL of the created video. Please take a look!

The video contest started with a lot of anxiety and anticipation, but now I feel that it was a really good experience.
We were able to bond not only through the content of the video, but also through talking about our daily lives and each other’s cultures.
I think it was because the pair was Phee that they were able to make such a good video.
This video contest made me interested in Thai culture, so I would like to visit Thailand as well.

2nd place pair

KAWANISHI Kaon, 2nd grade, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering & Warapronkul Noimanee (Thailand)

This is my first time participating in this contest.
A further understanding of the theme gender equality, differences in values and ideas between my partner and me, etc.
I would like to make use of everything I learned through the contest in the future.
I am grateful to those who gave me a good experience.

3rd place pair

It was the first time for me to collaborate with people from overseas in English, and it was my first time to make a video for my presentation.
So at first, I was full of anxiety, but once it started, I was unfamiliar with it and had a lot of difficulties.
With the cooperation of my partner, it was a very stimulating and enjoyable 6 months for me.
Through this video contest, I think I was able to learn both the wonders and the fun of international exchange.
In March, the partner will come to Japan to participate in an event held at Toyota KOSEN, so I am looking forward to that as well.

In addition, we received efforts from various fields, including the Alumni Association, the Japan Research Institute, and the WTOC (“Around the World from the Classroom!” project) for the judging. Thank you very much.
Three Thai students who won the 6th contest will be invited to the KOSEN Global Camp to be held at Toyota KOSEN in March. Students are looking forward to the opportunity to meet partners who they have only met online!
